6th Bluprint Design Competition

 

BluPrint, The Philippines’ only design            sourcebook, awarded the winners of the 5^th Annual Visionary Design Competition    (AViD5) at the 19^th Philippine World Building and Construction Expo (WorldBEX), at the World Trade Center Manila. 

 

On its 5^th year, the goal of AViD was to take Philippine museums from traditional to innovative, where entrants were asked to design a concept for a contemporary art museum located at the heart of Bonifacio Global City, Taguig. The competition was open to Professionals (Architects), and Students and Graduates of the Arts.

For the professional division, the winning  entry was "Liwasang MU.NA (Museo ng NApapanahong Sining". designed by Voltaire Manalo,Ted William Ang, and John Ross Lucilo of Srkisens.

Liwasang MU.NA is a proposal for an art museum that employs the idea of a public park and a “new museum”. It aims to bring contemporary art closer to everyone, contradicting the common perception that art is appreciated only by the highest classes in society. It also presents a general sense of openness and a continuous relationship between indoors and the outdoors is presented by the interlocking compositions of space and structures.

  

For the students and graduates division, the award was given to Michael Dave Bognadon of St. Louis University.

Bognadon’s entry was inspired by standard cube shipping containers which, in his words, are “efficiently constructed while remaining true to its purpose.”  Keeping in line with the goal of the concept which is to create a connection between the art and its audience, the aesthetics were modified accordingly.

  

Along with the awarding for AVID5 winners, BluPrint launched its next competition, the BluPrint 6th Design Competition. 

  

The competition aims to uncover creative minds and recognize the most talented and promising designers nationwide, with the help of some of the most prominent personalities in the industry as judges.

The contest caters to not only professionals such as architects, interior, product, and graphic designers, but also students and graduates of the arts. This year, the panel of judges consists of notable names from multiple design disciplines. It includes the Dean of SoFA Design Institute in Manila, Tobias Guggenheimer; Joey Yupangco, the Dean of the School of Design and Arts, De La Salle – College of St. Benilde; international award-winning furniture designer Kenneth Cobonpue; renowned sculptor and furniture designer Benjie Reyes; and graphic designer and illustrator AJ Dimarucot, who has been commissioned by multinational brands like Nike, Adidas, and Puma. 

This years' theme is “Thinking Forward”, and participants can choose and design from three categories: Furniture Design, Industrial Design and Graphic Design.
